Method 1: (Directly from the phone)
1) Turn the BlackBerry on and wait until the main screen is displayed.
2) Press and hold down the following 3 keys consecutively; ALT CAPS and H (see 'Notes:' below for Pearl & Storm phones)
3) Enter the ’Device PIN’, ‘App Version’ and ‘Uptime’ information (including spaces, brackets etc) into the KeyGen
4) Type the key directly into your BlackBerry (on the current screen). Nothing will appear when typing!
5) After the key has been entered a new engineering screen becomes visible.
6) Navigate to ‘OS Engineering Screens’ > ‘Device Info’ and scroll down until you see ‘MEP-xxxxx-xxx’ (where x is a number).
Notes:
- For Pearl & other Sure-type phones (i.e. two characters on one key) press & hold the ALT key and type E A C E , then release ALT
- For Storm, hold the BACK arrow, and tap the screen in the following areas: TOP LEFT, TOP RIGHT, TOP LEFT, TOP RIGHT.

TroubleShooting
- Do NOT close the screen on your BlackBerry phone as it will change the 'Uptime' value
- Press the ALT key when entering numbers.
- The 'Key Duration' can be left as '1 day'
- Double check you have entered the key correctly
- Letters are not case sensitive
- Enter data exactly as show on the phone, including brackets, spaces, full stops etc

Method 2: (Connecting to a computer)

Windows PC Users;
1) Install the BlackBerry Desktop manager software
2) Download & install MEP finder. Put a tick in the box to ‘Run BlackBerry-Reader.exe’ and click Finish
3) Connect your BlackBerry to the PC using the USB cable (disable your BlackBerry’s password if you have one set)
4) Once your BlackBerry has been detected, the ‘Get Info’ Button will become available, click on it.
5) From the information displayed look for ‘MEP-xxxxx-xxx’ (where x is a number), this is your MEP ID.

Mac OS X users:
1) Install the BlackBerry Desktop manager software
2) Download and unzip the Mac MEP finder.
3) Connect your BlackBerry to the MAC using the USB cable (disable your BlackBerry’s password if you have one set)
4) Start the BB-Logger and click Read Info
5) From the information displayed look for ‘MEP-xxxxx-xxx’ (where x is a number), this is your MEP ID.

TroubleShooting
If the Logger is unable to read your phone info, make sure to do the following:
- Fully close the BlackBerry Desktop Manager. This includes closing the Desktop Manager icon in the system tray.
- Disable the memory card from being available as a mass storage device.
- Temporarily disable any passwords that you’ve set on the phone.
- If your keypad AUTO-LOCKS, please make sure to disable this option.

Canadian mobile phone maker Research In Motion has made available for download a new version of its desktop application aimed at Apple's Mac users who own a BlackBerry smartphone, the BlackBerry Desktop Software for Mac v2.1.

The application was designed so as to offer users the possibility to easily sync their BlackBerry smartphones or the BlackBerry PlayBook to their Mac computers.

The new application version is available for all Macs running under OS X v10.5.7 and above, RIM announced.

With this application, users will be able to sync contacts, calendar appointments, tasks and notes, as well as to transfer data between BlackBerry smartphones, or to add or remove applications from the mobile phone.

In order to enjoy the features that this software has to offer, users will have to have iTunes v7.7.1 or later installed on their desktop machines, and to own a BlackBerry handset that runs under BlackBerry OS 4.2 or higher.

“BlackBerry Desktop Software for Mac v2.1 includes media sync support for the BlackBerry PlayBook,” RIM explains.

“In addition to being able to drag and drop files directly to BlackBerry PlayBook over USB or Wi-Fi, you can now use Desktop Software for Mac to sync music, photos and videos with iTunes and iPhoto over USB.”
